Keep these four things beside you.
- 01A rigid steel tape measure
- 02A pencil and clear notes
- 03A small spirit level
- 04A phone for window photos

Measuring inside the reveal
An inside-fit blind sits within the window recess. First check there is enough clear depth for brackets and that handles or latches will not obstruct the blind.
- Measure the width in three places.Top, middle and bottom. Record each reading; use the smallest.
- Measure the drop in three places.Left, centre and right. Record each reading; use the smallest.
- Check the diagonals and depth. If the opening looks out of square, photograph it and note the clear reveal depth.
- Enter the exact opening size.Do not make your own deductions. Manufacturing allowances are confirmed during review.

Measuring across the face
A face-fit blind covers the opening from the wall or architrave. It suits shallow reveals, projecting handles and improved edge coverage.
- Decide the finished coverage.Mark where the blind should begin and end with even overlap.
- Measure the total finished width.Measure between those marks—not just the glass.
- Measure the total finished drop.Measure from the bracket position to the required lower edge.
- Look before you write.Check handles, opening sashes, tiles, switches, tracks and fixing points.
Small habits prevent expensive surprises.
